Lockheed JetStar Large Size Corporate Jet


The four engined JetStar was initially designed as a private venture but was also selected to fulfil a US Air Force requirement for a multi engined light transport and crew trainer.

The first civil configured JetStar was delivered in early 1961 and so the JetStar was the first business jet to enter service. Meanwhile the JetStar entered service with the USAF in 1962 as the C140 navaid calibration aircraft and the VC140 VIP transport in late 1961.
The turbojet powered JetStar remained in production until mid 1973, by which time development of the turbofan powered JetStar II had been announced. The JetStar II differs from the earlier aircraft primarily in its four Garrett (previously AiResearch and now AlliedSignal) TFE731 turbofans with their significantly improved fuel consumption, resulting in substantial improvements in operating costs, range and lower noise levels, while more power allows a higher maximum takeoff weight.
The first JetStar II flew on August 18 1976, with certification following in December that year. The II remained in production until 1979.
AiResearch meanwhile had already flown its own TFE731 powered conversion of the JetStar in July 1974. The first production AiResearch 731 JetStar conversion flew in March 1976.

The JetStar has a fairly typical business jet layout, with a swept wing and a cruciform tail. The wing has a 30° sweepback and features large fuel tanks at about half-span, extending some distance in front and behind the wing. The wings hold 10,000 pounds of fuel, and each slipper tank holds 4,000 pounds of fuel for a total fuel load when topped off of 18,000 pounds. The wing also includes slats along the front of the wing outboard of the tanks (these leading edge slats reduces the stalling speed by an additional three knots), while double-slotted trailing-edge flaps span the entire rear surface, inboard of the ailerons

The Raytheon Hawker 800 is a mid-size twin-engine corporate aircraft, originally designed and manufactured by British Aerospace as the BAe 125.
 In 1993 Raytheon acquired British Aerospace Corporate Jets Ltd, and they began marketing this aircraft as the Hawker 800.


 The current version is identified as the Hawker 850XP and was certified for operation in March 2006.

1000 (one thousand) is the natural number following 999 and preceding 1001.
 The year 1000 is the last year of the first millennium AD.
 A common railway gauge is 1000 millimetres (3 ft 3.375 in).

The Hawker 1000 was based on the smaller Hawker 800, and until 1997 the two types were in production side by side in the famous de Havilland plant in Hatfield.
 The 1000 is identifiable via its seven main cabin windows per side, whereas the 800 has six, and the 2'9in (0.84m) stretch (achieved by small fuselage plugs in front of and behind the wing) allowing an increase in max seating to 15.
 As is the case with the BAe 125800, the BAe 1000 became the Hawker 1000 from mid 1993 when Raytheon purchased British Aerospace's Corporate Jets division.


By the end of 1994, fifty-two Hawker 1000s had been built, with thirty-eight orders yet to be fulfilled, but Raytheon decided not to produce any more of the type until further orders were received.


Raytheon Aircraft ended 2003 by announcing an order of $360 million from NetJets Inc. for 50 Hawker 400XP light jets, eight Hawker 800XP mid-size jets, and a long-term maintenance agreement that includes the existing Hawker 800XP and Hawker 1000 business jets in the NetJets® fleet of fractionally owned aircraft.
Raytheon Aircraft’s Government Business Division delivered its 200th T-6A aircraft while receiving a $228 million order from the U.S. Government for an additional 47 aircraft and related training devices.

The Hawker 1000 was the largest member of the DH/HS/BAe-125/Hawker 800 series of corporate jets.

the Hawker 1000A looked like a winner. But after six years and anemic sales, Raytheon walked away from the program with only 52 built, even though it had orders for dozens more. "There must be a reason for this," I hear you say.

Actually, about 2.7 million reasons, or rather, dollars. In 1995, that was the approximate price spread between the $12.695 million Hawker 1000A and the $9.95 million Hawker 800XP. Raytheon sold the two airplanes concurrently and the market voted decisively. Although the 1000A had true transcontinental east-west range (in other words, against the prevailing winds), flew 10 knots faster, drank 20 gallons an hour less fuel, had a longer cabin, offered more luggage space and had two more windows, there just were not enough buyers who thought those attributes were worth almost three million bucks.

During the six years the two models were built simultaneously, the 800 outsold the 1000 by better than two to one and the 1000's production rate dwindled to fewer than 12 per year. Raytheon's accountants pulled out their scalpels and the last 1000 rolled off the line in 1997. By then, Raytheon was immersed in developing a true super-midsize jet, the composite fuselage Hawker Horizon (rebadged the Hawker 4000); and comparatively cramped midsize models, with narrower and lower-ceiling cabins-even stretched ones-were losing appeal as true transcontinental haulers.

Raytheon's Hawker Horizon is an all new 'super mid-size' corporate air charter. The Hawker 4000, originally known as the Hawker Horizon, is a super-midsize business jet developed by Hawker Beechcraft (formerly Raytheon Aircraft Company).

Development[edit]

Raytheon announced a new business jet in November 1996 as a larger aircraft than the existing Hawker 1000 that formed the top of Raytheon's jet range. The design, then known as the Hawker Horizon, was intended to fly in 1999, with certification and initial customer deliveries planned for 2001.[2]
The first prototype made its maiden flight on August 11, 2001,[3] with the second prototype and third prototypes making their maiden flights on May 10 and July 31, 2002.[4] It made its public debut in November 2002 when a development aircraft was displayed at the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) convention.[4] As of March 2007 orders totaled more than 130 aircraft, with deliveries scheduled to begin in June 2008. On December 2, 2005 NetJets signed an order for 50 of the new aircraft, the largest single commercial order in the history of Raytheon Aircraft.[5]
The Hawker 4000 is being certified to FAA FAR Part 25 standards, which places a five-year time limit on certification of a new transport category aircraft. The 4000 completed Function and Reliability Tests on May 25, 2006.[6] During September 2005, a prototype underwent testing at the McKinley Climatic Laboratory at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.[7] However, since the Part 25 five-year window expired May 31, 2006, the company filed an extension request to head off the possibility that the certification program would need to restart from the beginning. On November 21, 2006, the company announced that the 4000 had received its FAA type certification.[8]
In May 2008, BJETS completed an order for ten Hawker 4000 business jets from Hawker Beechcraft Corporation. The contract value including all options exercised was said to be in excess of $330 million. The deal was announced at EBACE on May 20, 2008.[9] and[10]
Following the BJETS order, Hawker Beechcraft delivered its Hawker 4000 super-midsized business jet to customer Jack P. DeBoer during a special ceremony at the company's Customer Delivery Center in Wichita, Kan. At the time, the Hawker 4000 played an important role in a new era for general aviation, as it is first in its class to be based on its composite construction.[11]
The Hawker 4000 received its certification in China from the Civil Aviation Administration of China in December 2009.[12]
In February 2010, Hawker Beechcraft delivered its first Hawker 4000 business jet into mainland China. The jet was said to be based at the Beijing Capital International Airport.[13]
Design[edit]


The Hawker 4000 can be outfitted to seat ten people in a comfortable cabin configuration. This is partially due to the aircraft's carbon composite construction, which gives it more interior space than many jets in its class. Interior standing room is an average of six feet.[14] This composite construction also makes the aircraft much lighter than a standard aluminum structure, allowing a maximum range of 3,445 nautical miles, and a service ceiling of 45,000 feet (14,000 m).[15] The flight deck features a Honeywell Primus Epic avionics suite with EICAS, FADEC and autothrottle.
Demise[edit]

As of May 2013, Hawker-Beechcraft is offering its jet division, including the Hawker 4000 project, for sale. The company intends to focus on propeller-driven aircraft; leaving the future of the Hawker 4000 up to an eventual buyer. [16] [17]

Business Jets - The Raytheon Hawker 4000

The Hawker 4000 is an all-new super mid size corporate jet built by the Raytheon Aircraft Company. It was originally announced under the name of Hawker Horizon in 1996, but didn't debut until November 2005.

The Horizon's design is based upon the philosophy of combining the earlier Hawkers' popular characteristics with new advanced technologies, so it was deliberately designed to look, feel and fly like a Hawker.

The 4000 follows the line of the previous Hawker 1000, but compared to its predecessor, the Horizon has a wider, slightly longer fuselage with a flat floor, a cabin with stand up headroom and a heavier maximum takeoff weight. The Horizon features an all-composite fuselage built in three sections and manufactured using the automated fiber placement technology developed for the Premier I, which was a parallel project that Raytheon was working on at the time. The empennage features an aluminum sub structure and carbon fiber skin.

The carbon composite construction used in the Horizon gives it more interior space than many jets in its class. This composite construction also makes the aircraft much lighter than a standard aluminum structure, allowing a maximum range of 3,445 nautical miles, and a service ceiling of 45,000 ft.

The flight deck systems feature a Primus Epic flight control system and flight management system. The navigation suite consists of a dual VHF omni directional radio navigation system, dual distance measuring equipment, dual inertial navigation system, dual global positioning system, an electronic ground proximity warner, a TCAS II terrain collision avoidance system and a Primus 880 color weather radar.

The Hawker 4000 is powered by 2 Pratt & Whitney Canada PW308A turbofans, resulting in a 0.82 Mach cruising speed and a maximum speed of 0.84 Mach. The fuselage has a length of 69 ft 2 in, a wingspan of 61 ft 9 in and a height of 19 ft 7 in. The empty weight is 23,500 lb.

The aircraft is also equipped with twin-wheeled hydraulically retractable tricycle-type Messier-Dowty landing gear, which are fitted with hydraulically operated, digitally controlled carbon disc brakes and an electronic anti-skid system. 
The Hawker 4000 has a crew of two pilots and can be typically set to accommodate eight people in a comfortable cabin configuration, arranged with four pairs of club chairs with writing tables. Additional cabin configurations are available, supporting a maximum capacity of 12 passengers.

The cabin air conditioning and pressurization system is digitally controlled. Cabin pressurization at a cruising altitude of 43,000 ft can be maintained at the equivalent of 6,000 ft altitude compared to 8,000 ft on conventional aircraft.

History  

The Let L-200 Morava retractable four seat light twin was one of the few light aircraft to be exported from behind the Iron Curtain during the Cold War era, albeit in small numbers.
Ladislav Smrek of the Czechoslovakian State Aircraft Factory designed the L-200 in the mid 1950s to develop a replacement for the early postwar vintage Aero 45 and 145 light twins. His resulting design is similar in many ways to its contemporary western twins, with a four or five place cabin, a low wing, wingtip tanks, metal construction and retractable undercarriage. However the Morava is distinguishable by its twin tails, standard thermal wing deicing equipment and inverted inline engines.
The prototype XL-200 Morava flew for the first time on April 8 1957. The XL-200 prototype and a series of preproduction L-200s were powered by 120kW (160hp) Walter Minor 6-III inline sixes. Initial production was of the L-200A, which differed from the L-200 in being powered by two 155kW (210hp) fuel injected M-337s, and had greater weights, a reprofiled cabin and hydraulically (rather than electrically) operated undercarriage and flaps.
Let built 160 L-200As before production switched to the improved L-200D. Features include a strengthened undercarriage, improved hydraulic and electrical systems and constant speed three blade propellers. The L-200D remained in production until 1969, and 5 aircraft were licence built in Slovenia (then part of Yugoslavia) by Libis. A turboprop powered development was studied but not built.
Most L-200 production was for customers within the Soviet Bloc - Aeroflot for example operated a large number in a range of roles including air taxi, air ambulance and communications duties. However small numbers were exported to western Europe, the USA and other Western countries.

On 8 April 1957 Let flew the prototype of a twin-engined four/five-seat business aircraft designed by Ladislav Smrcek. Designated Let L-200 Morava, the machine was a cantilever low-wing monoplane with permanently-attached wingtip fuel tanks and had a tail unit incorporating twin endplate fins and rudders. Landing gear was of retractable tricycle type, and power for the prototype and L-200 series aircraft was provided by two 119kW Walter Minor 6-III inline engines. The original production model was superseded first by the generally similar L-200A, with more powerful Walter M 337 engines and, subsequently, by the final production version, the L-200D, which was introduced in mid-1962. This differed by in-corporating improved systems, strengthened landing gear, and three-bladed constant-speed propellers. When production ended in 1968 more than 1,000 had been built, many being supplied to Aeroflot for this airline's operations in the Moscow, North and Ukrainian Directorate areas. The type was also built under licence in Yugoslavia.

Aero Boero S.A. is an Argentine aircraft manufacturer.

It is established in 1956 by Héctor Boero in Morteros in Córdoba Province and manufactured a range of light civil utility and agricultural aircraft.

The company began as a repair and maintenance facility for light aircraft. Since the major civil aeronautical activity in the area in the 1950s was crop-dusting, most of the company's activities centered on agricultural aircraft. By 1958 the company principals felt they could build aircraft which could be used in such applications, and a trio of designers, brothers Cesar and Héctor Boero and Celestine Barale, began work on the -95. They continued upgrading and adding models until the middle of 2000, when a combination of political instability and economic downturn caused the company to cease aircraft production. Since that time the company has continued providing repair services and supplying spare parts for aircraft in the field
